EcoPress™ Aluminium Capsule Recycler SupportUpdated 2 months ago

Question:

Can the EcoPress be used for all types of coffee capsule?

Answer:

No. The EcoPress can only be used with aluminium coffee capsules compatible with the Nespresso® domestic 'drop through' machine system.

Question:

Why do you have to clean the empty capsule with tap water to remove remaining coffee residue. Isn't that a waste of water?

Answer:

We recommend to use discarded washing up water rather than use fresh water. It is more hygienic to store and recycle clean aluminium rather than capsules with coffee residue.

Question:

Aluminium Coffee pods are not accepted by most councils in UK for recycling. How does this change that?

Answer:

Recycling centres in the UK require that the used coffee council be empty of grains, and so once the waste is separated from the capsule, they can be recycled as regular aluminium foil.

By pairing this with our Stack & Squash method, it is easier for recycling centres to deposit the aluminium as the surface is bigger.

Question:

What is the Stack & Squash method?

Answer:

The Stack & Squash method ensures that recycled aluminium capsules are in fact, recycled. This is due to loose aluminium coffee capsules being small and hard for recycling centres to sort.

To Stack & Squash simply:

1. Stack a minimum of 3 empty capsules

2. Turn the capsule stack on it's side

3. Squash the stack with the palm of your hand

Question:

Nespresso capsules have a plastic / silicone coating on the inside, which I’m worried would make these not suitable for household recycling collections.

Answer:

It is true that some aluminium Nespresso compatible capsules as well as Nespresso's own capsules, do contain a layer of silicone. However, the amount of silicone is small and it burns off during the heated recycling process. Alternatively, you could use Dualit capsules as we do not use a silicone layer in ours.
